Since its independence, Mauritius has spared no efforts to complete its decolonization so that it can effectively and fully exercise its sovereignty over its entire territory, including the Chagos Archipelago.
 
There has been continued and sustained international condemnation of the United Kingdom’s dismemberment of the territory of Mauritius, as testified by the various resolutions and declarations adopted by, inter alia, the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), the Organization of African Unity and subsequently the African Union (AU), the Group of 77 and China, the African, Caribbean and Pacific Group of States (ACP Group) (now called Organization of African, Caribbean and Pacific States)​​ and the Africa-South America Summits.
